Korthals Griffon Association
Dedicated to the Global Promotion and Protection of the Korthals Griffon
The previous training day was designed to prepare the handler and dog for a North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) Natural Ability (NA) (link) and German Versatile Hunting Dog Association (JGHV) Spring Breeding test (VJP) (link to English explanation) both of which form the basis of the scheduled Korthals Griffon Association NA test to be offered in the Spring of 2018. Live and cold game exposure, introduction to shot and water will be offered. The day was ideally suited to the young and or inexperienced dog. 4 to 18 months of age is the ideal time to begin bird, shot, water and hunting exposure. If done correctly this sets the foundation for creating the best hunting companion and those wishing to get involved in working tests.
About the trainer: Carol is an AKC approved Hunt Test Judge and has attended the NAVHDA Judges’ Seminar for NA Testing. She is an avid upland bird and waterfowl hunter and all her Griffs were used heavily during the hunting season at her shooting preserve as guide dogs. Carol’s first KG was the most titled in the breed at the time with 17 different titles before and after his name in conformation, agility, tracking, and of course hunting. He was inducted into the AWPGA Hall of Fame for his accomplishments. During the off season he could be found in therapy work. Her second Griff took her to the Eukanuba three times and won two awards of merit. He retired as a Grand Champion and Advanced Master Hunter. He is the only dog in the USA to achieve this combination. Not surprisingly, other versatile gundog owners after witnessing the highly successful close working and happy relationship Carol had with her dogs, began asking for help with training theirs. Subsequently, she went on to hold regular training seminars on her ranch successfully helping others to achieve the same results. She has also produced a series of training videos and is currently writing a book on her training approach.
